In India there are many wildlife sanctuaries and parks where more than 350 species of mammals and 1,244 species of birds can be observed in their natural habitat.

The diversity of India's climate and topography has resulted in a rich flora and fauna.  Recently, conservation measures have been adopted to preserve the wonderful heritage of India's fauna. In particular, Project Tiger, which set aside areas and a ban on hunting of tiger, has resulted in improvements in the status of the tiger, other mammals, and the flora of these sanctuaries.

  (Note: Season is mid November to March/April).

Bharatpur, Keoladeo Ghana is the foremost water bird sanctuary and heronry in the world.  More than 300 species of birds are found in this small wildlife park of 29 square kilometres of which 11 square kilometres are marshes and the rest scrubland and grassland.

Bandhavgarh, in Central India, is considered by many as the finest of all sanctuaries in India, with very good sighting of tigers, and is the home of many rare and endangered species.

At
Kanha, the heart of the land romanticised by Kipling in his Jungle Books, there is a good chance of observing tiger, leopard, gaur, sloth bear, blackbuck and the barasingha.

Day 1

Driven to Bharatpur
Stay at the Laxmi Vilas Palace a Palace built in 1887 and converted into a
Heritage Hotel.

Day 2

Bharatpur ~ Walk (or cycle) the 27 square kilometres of shallow lakes and woodlands.
Stay a second night at Laxmi Vilas Palace.

Day 3

Driven to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri the perfectly preserved city palace complex built 1570-1586 and abandoned 14 years later.
Overnight Hotel : We use the Trident Agra.
Or - the Gateway Hotel Agra.
Or - the ultra luxurious Oberoi's Amar Vilas, with a view of the Taj Mahal from every room.

Day 4

Take the early morning train to Jhansi.
Driven to
Khajuraho via Orchha.
Stay at the Radisson Hotel Khajuraho.

Day 5

Khajuraho ~ Visit the famous 'erotic' temples, built between the 10th and 12th centuries.
Stay a second night at the Radisson Hotel Khajuraho.

Day 6

In the morning, driven through the hills and the moist and dry deciduous sal forests to Bandhavgarh National Park.

Corbett National Park

In the foothills of the Himalaya lies Corbett National Park, the oldest wildlife reserve. Noted for tiger, elephant, leopard, and marsh crocodile. Corbett boasts of 580 species of birds.

Day 1

From Delhi, driven to Corbett Hideaway where you will be staying.
Or, if you are interested in Mahseer fishing, stay at
Riverine Woods (previously known as Van  Ghat River Lodge) in the wilderness, surrounded by the Ramganga River, ghats and a Tiger Reserve.

Day 2

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives (or fishing) with naturalists.
Stay a second night at at your chosen camp.

Day 3

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives (or fishing) with naturalists.
Stay a third night at your chosen camp.

Day 4 Driven to Delhi.

Kaziranga - Kolkata (Calcutta)

The saving from near extinction of the Indian One Horned Rhinoceros, the Wild Buffalo and the Swamp Deer at Kaziranga National Park in Assam is one of Asia's great conservation successes, with a wonderful bird life.
