Two common misunderstandings around suicide are: those who talk about
killing themselves won’t do it, and talking about suicide will put the
thought in someone’s mind.
It is not surprising that suicide may pass through the mind of anyone
who is depressed, feeling trapped or faced with an apparently
insoluble situation.
"A permanent solution to a temporary problem." Unknown
For the majority it is a fleeting thought, for
others it’s a longer consideration and for some it seems the only
way out.
We believe strongly at Maytree that listening, exploring and
understanding a person’s suicidal thoughts and feelings are the
first steps to helping someone come through a suicidal crisis.
We
believe that talking openly about suicide takes away the stigma and
opens up opportunities for positive change.
